News reports, even from top news organizations, rarely say that successful con men are con men. Instead, news items usually call them "leaders." They are called "business leaders", "political leaders", and other expensive varieties of leaders.
News reports, often, obscure the simplicity of the con man techniques, coating them with distracting details and interpretations.
This series of tips reminds you that con men, even the most celebrated, deserve more clear appreciation of their skills.
About This Series
The first series of "Techniques of Successful Con Men" items appeared in 2020 and 2021. Now in 2025, after a four-year delay, the series continues.

The "Techniques of Successful Con Men" series includes artist renderings of news items, with info about the source and date of each original news item, and a URL that points to the item itself. Each news item showcases some basic con man technique, as it was applied in a particular time and place.
The con man techniques are universal. Same scams, just with differently named people cloaking them with differently worded fairy tales.
The examples in this series are, in a way, nothing special. You can find equally good examples in almost any country or city or town—now, and throughout history.
